When should you change your bed?

Is your bed more than ten years old?
A 10 year old bed has about 3650 nights of use. Since you move about 40 times per night, during this time the mattress and base has been stressed about 150,000 times.

Do your feet hang off the end of your bed?
Your bed should be right for your height; it should be about 20 cm longer than your height.

Does it make too much noise?
Beyond mechanical wear, there is natural aging of the components. After 10 years, these various factors lead to a performance reduction of about 25% for a good quality product and much more for lesser quality mattresses and bases.

When you stretch out, do you have the impression of being at the bottom of a basin?
If you find yourself at the bottom of a basin and have the impression of sinking in, it’s because the suspension is completely gone. Your bed is worn out and no longer provides the support essential to the muscular relaxation of your back and spinal column.

Do you wake up at night when your partner moves?
Some mattresses provide more sleeper independence than others. Couples with significantly different weight are advised to choose two mattresses or one mattress with two different firmnesses (“His and Hers” option).

Do you wake up with a sore back?
If you have back problems, look for a customized support mattress and be careful not to confuse firmness and hardness. The sleep surface must be comfortable: it is wrong to think that you have to sleep on a hard layer in case of backache—technologies have changed! Many body pains are caused or worsened by poor sleep postures due to worn or unsuitable beds. (See below for sleep pathologies).

Do you wake up but not feel rested?
Optimal support provides orthopedically correct support and it must also allow the relaxation of the vascular and lymphatic systems in weight-bearing zones. The musculature must have confidence for full relaxation, releasing completely and letting you enter the deep sleep phase (REM) which alone provides you an ideal rest and avoids this sensation of exhaustion.

If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, it is time to change your bed!
On average, mattress and base must be changed every ten years, it is better to change both elements at the same time because it has been shown that a new mattress wears much more quickly if it is paired with an old or worn base—it loses one third of its lifetime.

A good bed is designed to last and only loose its properties very slowly. But this can only be revealed with use and time which is why a brand guarantee is important. A recent survey showed that 78% of buyers regretted not having replaced their old bed earlier!
